AT A GLANCE...
Commerce Construction was contracted to construct a new sheet pile bulkhead for Waste Management. Commerce installed 615 linear feet of new AZ 38-700N sheet pile while forming and pouring more than 2000 cubic yards of concrete for the new seawall. Embedded in the concrete was a new wale and tieback system for sheeting support and five new mooring bollards anchored to the low deck structure. Along with the sheeting and concrete, Commerce Construction also installed 12 new mooring fender panels and three timber pile clusters to better handle the facility’s ship traffic. The bulk of Commerce’s work was heavily on the low deck structure located just a foot above low mean water. Waste Management’s pier, which was originally constructed in 1951, was in need of repair due to its deterioration over time and increased bulk unloading activities topside.
