Commerce Construction was contracted to complete the demolition and installation of a new pipe pile supported Mooring Dolphin #3. The existing dolphin to be demolished was supported by an engineered system of falsework, and in turn was dismantled piece by piece and taken offsite to be disposed of. Commerce Construction demolished the 1100 cubic yard structure by saw cutting the concrete into manageable sections and then loading them onto a barge for disposal. The remaining dilapidated piles were cut at the mudline by divers, and then disposed of.

The construction of the new upriver, pile supported mooring dolphin, took place concurrently with the demolition of the existing dolphin. Commerce constructed a falsework system, drove new piles, and pumped 680 cubic yards of concrete into the new dolphin structure. Additionally, Commerce installed (3) new fender systems for the new mooring dolphin, the downriver shipdock dolphin, and the shipdock itself. Commerce completed the project with no safety incidents, on time, and within the allotted budget.
